Lets see if yall can help me out here....

FYI First - In the next day or two I'll be picking up my new to me 2002 red on gray clad AV Z71, with 103k miles on the clock. They were originally asking K and we settled on 11500. The new owner of this dealership (previous owners got caught doing bad business practices) appears to want to do the right thing and thats a bit of fresh air for the used car sales side of the fence. I say the are doing right, because they have replaces water pump, steering gear box, various steering components and a few other things i thought would make the deal fly better for me. I think so far they put about 15 hundred into the truck. I thought they might back out of the deal but they didn't so my hat is off to them...

Now comes the questions.

1. What all can I expect to see need attention, repairers and or replacement in the next few years and say 50 to 80 k miles?

2. Are any of you using extended warranties and if so what company and how well have they worked out for you?

3. Was 11500 a fair deal for and '02 with 103k miles on it?

Thanks

I have been in the used car market in quite a while however I say get as much from them as you can,,,, If you are taking a loan for the vehicle then at least get a warranty that would cover major repairs until the loan is paid off...

Is all the maintaince up to date,,, At some time spark plugs will need to be replaced,,,  over 110k  if it's not done already see if they will through that into the deal along with a fuel filter and or the warranty...

Exhaust systems and brakes are not covered by extended policy's,,, when were they done???  If the need to be done within your next few monthly payments that can add up to big bucks also...

It's worth asking how for they will go to close a deal...  Cars are not flying off the lots anymore and a used car deal for a dealer is free money,, make them work for it...

thanks for the replay challenger3x2 I'll check into the exhaust and brakes, I'm use to doing most of all my own wrenching on the weekend type work and yes an extended warranty is a definite deal to go for. I've gotten quotes for additional 5yr/100k miles ranging from 18 to 25 hundred and the surprising think the lesser price is from one of the older companies out there..

BTW - I took delivery yesterday, now anybody in the market for an '82 jeep cherokee......

A large bird on a Texas highway tried playing Chicken with me a few weeks ago. He lost! Impacted my left front turn signal housing. I have a 2005 with cladding so the turn signals are in the high position above the chrome bar. These housings snap out thanks to a molded support clip on the back on the fender side of the housing. That's all that locks them in. Nice design for easy bulb replacement but unfortunately impact breaks the clip off rendering the housing useless. This is my second time this has happened. Last time was a baseball sized piece of bouncing retread rubber on the interstate. Am I lucky or what! Same light too!

Anyway, this time I am not paying $85 for a new light housing. I fashioned a piece of aluminum to replace the broken clip and it is working fine. Click on image to open in new window
